Windows 11 Update Versions: 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2
This is where most of the confusion happens, because these version updates can feel oddly small. Here is why.
Since 24H2, Microsoft has kept every Windows 11 release, meaning 24H2, 25H2, and the upcoming 26H2, on the exact same underlying code. New features are actually already sitting on your PC, shipped quietly inside your regular monthly updates, just switched off. Once a year, Microsoft flips those features on using something called an enablement package, and your version number changes. That is why going from 24H2 to 25H2 takes minutes instead of hours, it is closer to flipping a switch than installing a new operating system. Why the October 13, 2026 Deadline Matters
If your PC is currently running Windows 11 24H2 Home or Pro edition, mark this date: October 13, 2026. After that, your PC stops receiving the monthly security updates that protect it from new threats. Your PC will keep working fine day to day, but it becomes gradually more exposed to security risks over time, the same situation Windows 10 users faced after October 2025.
The fix takes almost no effort. Since 24H2 and 25H2 share the same underlying platform, most eligible PCs will upgrade automatically, and if yours has not yet, you can trigger it manually:
- Go to Settings
- Click Windows Update
- Click Check for updates
- If you see Windows 11, version 25H2 offered, click to download and install it
This resets your support clock for another two years, until October 12, 2027.
