Apple announced the HomePod mini 2 on 13 October, alongside the HomeView smart display and a new Apple TV 4K. It is the cheapest way into Apple’s smart home setup, and the price went up by $20. Here is what you need to know before you pre-order.
HomePod mini 2 price
The HomePod mini 2 costs $149 in the US. The first model launched at $129, so this is a $20 increase. A stereo pair of two speakers would cost $298 at list price. Pre-orders opened in the US and more than 23 other regions on 13 October.
Prices in other countries can differ. We have not confirmed Indian pricing, so check Apple India’s store before you decide.
HomePod mini 2 release date
Apple lists the on-sale date as Friday, 30 October. That is two weeks before the new Apple TV 4K and HomeView, which both ship on 13 November. If you want the full picture of the new lineup, read our HomeView price and release date guide.
HomePod mini 2 specs and colours
Here is what Apple and early coverage report:
- Chip: Apple S10
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6
- Size and weight: about 3.3 x 3.9 inches and about 0.74 lb
- Colours: pink, green, blue, white and midnight
- Sound: a new Sound Glow light effect on the top surface
- Kept from before: Thread, Ultra Wideband, a temperature and humidity sensor, and Sound Recognition for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
- Voices: it can recognise up to six people
New audio features
The new speaker can work as a surround speaker with the new Apple TV 4K. Apple says you can use four HomePods together for surround sound, including a mix of mini and full-size models. It can also act as a speaker for a Mac.
Siri AI is not ready at launch
This is the biggest catch. The HomePod mini 2 ships without Siri AI. Apple says it will arrive later through a software update. At first it will support English in eight listed countries, and it needs an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence turned on.
It will also not be available at first in the EU on iPhone or iPad. We explain why in our article on why Apple HomeView is not in the EU. For the bigger software picture, see our guide to iOS 27 and the new Siri.
Should you buy it?
If you already own an original HomePod mini, the upgrade is mostly about the faster chip, newer wireless and the surround option. If you are buying your first Apple smart speaker, it is still the cheapest entry point, but remember that the headline AI feature is not there on day one.
What is still unknown
- Exact Siri AI launch date for the speaker
- Indian pricing and which countries get Siri AI first
- Real-world sound quality compared with the original
